We wish to welcome you to the First Baptist Church Family on behalf of our Pastor, Dr. Marion J. Franklin. and our First Lady, Sis. Ann D. Franklin. Welcome! The following list represents the various ministries available within First Baptist Church. It is our hope that you would become involved in one of these ministries.
Deacons Ministry
This ministry’s function is to provide leadership within the church based on the Pastor’s direction. The Deacons uphold and support the Pastor while following his leadership. They are a source for guidance for “male” persons and/or families who may be in need of assistance. They serve communion to the congregation and to those who are sick and/or shut-in. Deacons are “called” to this ministry and are ordained.
Deaconess Ministry
This ministry’s function is to assist the Deacons’ Ministry. Although they are not ordained, persons in this ministry are consecrated and “called” to serve the Lord by assisting where necessary, especially with “female” persons who may be in need of assistance.
Trustees Ministry
This ministry's function is to maintain the care of the church property both financially and physically. They are responsible for the property management. They also maintain the finances of the church.
Ministry of Evangelism
This ministry seeks to enable the congregation to win others to Christ thus fulfilling the church’s primary mandate. It will seek innovative and relevant ways of sharing the “Good News.”
Ministry of Prayer
This ministry maintains an ongoing prayer base praying for those who minister, for the church and for individual prayer requests. This goal is a 24 hour prayer availability.
Ministry of Worship
This ministry serves in relation to the Pastor to develop and maintain inspirational Spirit-filled worship. It leads devotions and organizes an effective “Praise Team.”
Ministry of Membership
This ministry receives and counsels individuals who respond to the invitation to Christian discipleship. It follows up with those who join the church seeking their spiritual nurture and assimilation into the church family.
Ministry of Greeters
This ministry consists of friendly and helpful individuals who warmly greet and welcome both members and visitors as they enter the church assisting them with necessary information.
Media Ministry
This ministry operates and maintains the audio and video media, recording church services and programs and making such available to members particularly the sick and shut-ins.
Ministry of Administration
This ministry is composed of individuals with a wide variety of administrative and office skills to provide the support and services that enable the church’s ministries to serve with greater efficiency through the church office, information systems, data entry, typing, mailings, etc.
Ministry of Church Promotion
This ministry communicates the mission and work of First Baptist Church to its members and community. This is done through the imaging of the church and promoting that image. Through the press and media it conveys our ministry to the public. Internally, it assumes leadership in developing a church newsletter and a photo directory of the membership.
Ministry of Properties
This ministry works in concert with the Trustee’s Ministry in maintaining the care of our properties both church and rental property.
Ministry of Grounds
This ministry provides a wide variety of opportunities for those who enjoy serving by creating a beautiful and attractive environment around our properties. This is a year-round ministry of gardening, landscaping, lawn care and snow removal.
Ministry of Visitation and Ministry to Home Bound
This ministry brings compassion and assistance for the sick, shut-ins and hurting by visiting, providing prayer and support. This ministry will focus on persons who are home bound. Persons are considered home bound if leaving home requires a taxing effort and necessitates the assistance of another person. In the context of the church, the home bound are those persons for whom getting out is a difficulty, hardship, or an ordeal. This ministry will enable persons to reach out to the sick and suffering to demonstrate God’s love for the sick and those who suffer. It will also allow those who minister to learn from those who suffer.
Ministry of Card and Letter Writers
For those who have the gift of encouragement, this ministry writes and sends cards and letters of encouragement to those who are in hospitals, nursing homes, at home, and those struggling with grief and death. They also encourage those away from the church: students, prisoners, “missing” members, etc.
Ministry of Social Action and Social Services
This ministry seeks to educate, enlighten and inform the congregation of critical social issues (racial, political, economic, etc.) to which the church should respond and take action, seeking the “release of the oppressed.” This ministry provides information and assistance in obtaining social service resource for members and the community.
Ministry of Healing
This ministry seeks to minister to the hurting both physical and personal by learning to heal “the broken hearted, the wounded, the bruised” and by providing relational support.
AIDS/HIV Ministry
This ministry seeks to minister to persons and families of individuals affected by HIV/AIDS; to become knowledgeable in order to both minister to affected individuals and provide information and assistance for its prevention.
Ministry to the Undershepherd
The sole purpose of this ministry is to provide pastoral care for the Pastor. It seeks the well-being and nurture of the Pastor and provides support for such.
Ministry of Reading and Research
For those who enjoy reading and who desire to share the insight and value of their readings and reflections, this ministry researches, reads books and informative resources which serve to enhance the mission and
ministry of the church. Goals might be to establish a religious book store and library in the church.
Ministry of Records
This ministry preserves and continues to write and maintain the history of the church. It provides for the safekeeping of important documents.
Ministry of the Arts
This ministry utilizes the arts for the church’s ministry through creative and artistic expressions (e.g., drama, music, dance, religious artwork, banners, etc.).
Ministry of Giving
For those who feel they lack the time or talent for other ministries, but who have a sincere concern for the fruitful ministry of the church and can give financially, beyond the general offerings, as well as contact other sources and donors who can underwrite the various ministries of the church.
Ministry of Telephone
This ministry will provide contact with members on a weekly basis. It also could be a good tool for following up with new members, the sick and shut-in and absentee members.
Ministry of Addiction
This ministry focuses on those who are chemically dependent (alcoholism and drug addiction). The main thrust would be to minister to alcoholics and drug addicts and members of their families. chemical dependence fosters many other family and community problems. Persons with some knowledge/experience in this area would be encouraged to be a part of this ministry.
Ministry of Bereavement Care
This ministry would be available to assist and support the Pastor in ministry to bereaved persons in and out of the church.
Embrace Youth Ministry
This ministry supports and encourages youth and fosters their spiritual growth. Through mentoring, this ministry would be designed on the order of the Big Brother/Big Sister concept. Positive relationships contribute to one’s motivation and self-esteem.
Ministry of Single Parenting
This ministry will deal with problems that single parents face. Also it would examine the special needs of divorced, widowed, and never married parents. It would explore ways in which the church can encourage and support single parents.
Ministry to Prisons
This ministry would contact prison Chaplains to learn what activities are already being done with the person. After which, a decision would be made whether it would be better to help with an existing program or to start a new one. Studies show that prisoners who receive religious training while incarcerated are less likely to be repeat offenders. This ministry provides long term benefits to society and eternal benefits to the prisoner whose life is changed by the Gospel.
Ministry of Nursing Home
This ministry has two basic needs: one-to-one visitation and providing spiritual opportunities for enrichment to those who are confined. It is designed so that the resident in a nursing home facility receives the ministry of the church.
Ministry to Families in Crisis
This ministry requires research whereby families could get the necessary assistance through various agencies. This ministry would establish a rapport between agencies that deal with families in crisis.
Ministry to Homelessness
Organize ministry that would include volunteering time at a facility that provides services to homeless people (e.g., soup kitchens and shelters). Organize a method whereby food, blankets, clothing, etc. could be delivered to people on the streets who will not come to a shelter. In many instances, to help people, you must go to them.
Ministry of Physical Fitness and Preventive Health
This ministry provides information that impact on preventive health and well-being through a variety of programs/services for all ages. Some examples would be nutrition and updates on health issues.
Ministry of Professional Development
As we move through life we find that there is a right way, a wrong way and sometimes an infamous gray area. In our search for quality lifestyle we find ourselves in fierce competition with dramatic changes in the job market and the skills required. This serious competition does not leave room for the gray area, let alone the wrong way. The purpose of the Ministry of Professional Development is to make the best use of the talents we are given. We all have God given ability and it is the will of God that we make the best use of our ability.
Ministry of the Golden Years
This ministry works primarily with the Ministry of Physical Fitness and Preventive Health and reaches out to seniors (age 55 and over). It provides a source for services that impact on key issues for seniors such as health, safety, legal concerns and overall well-being. It also provides spiritual support for seniors.
Singles Ministry
Through the singles ministry you can experience the relationship with God that he intended. To live the victorious single life: grow in numbers (Acts 2:41), grow up (Acts 2:42), grow out (Acts 2:43-45), and grow together (Acts 2:46-47).
Computer Ministry
The mission of the computer ministry is to ready our church family for the challenges presented by the technologically advanced environment in which we exist.
Ushers Ministry
This ministry consists of Jr. and Sr. ushers who serve as friendly doorkeepers in the house of the Lord. They greet each member and visitor who enters the church and provides them with assistance during worship
service if necessary.
Missionary Ministry
This ministry gives assistance to families in the community who are in need. The assistance given is confidential and of a sensitive nature. The ministry also spreads the good news of Jesus Christ.

The church also has a library and a computer learning center. For information relative to the H. Leslie Carey Library you can contact Sis. H. Leslie Carey or visit the library on Thursdays between 6:00 - 9:30 p.m. or on Sundays after the worship service.
